Hello Geri,
Dr. Sears appreciates your email, here are our comments.
Your food plan should be based on your lean body mass and activity factor. See:
http://www.zonediet.com/resources/body-fat-calculator/The minimum for an adult female is 11 blocks + one extra block when pregnant, see below.
Dr. Sears believes that following the Zone program and supplementing with fish oil to be a prudent and scientifically validated approach for pregnant women.
Everyone should receive their nutrition from whole foods and not rely solely on supplements regardless of their marketing claims. Research has demonstrated that fish oil containing EPA and DHA is safe and essential to the mother and aids in the developing eyes and brain of the fetus. The levels of contaminates, dioxins, furans, PCB’s and mercury, should be considered during supplementation. The OmegaRx fish oil is one of the purest fish oils on the market. The levels of contaminates are well below the standards set by CRN/GOED and WHO. You can review our latest batch/lot at:
http://www.zonediet.com/resources/purity/Your supplements seem reasonable, however, your physician should approve of your supplementations. Omega 3’s are required for neural development while the polyphenols provide those compounds found in colorful fruits and vegetables. It’s very difficult to consume too many polyphenols. Info regarding polyphenols at:
http://www.zonediet.com/product-category/polyphenols/Following the Zone diet, supplementing with 2.5g/d of EPA/DHA (that’s 4 capsules of OmegaRx) and a high quality polyphenol product should establish an excellent nutritional foundation for you and your child. Dr. Sears says “If you are pregnant or nursing, you should be using a Zone Diet to ensure adequate protein intake. For pregnant women, increase your protein intake by 10 grams at every meal with a corresponding increase of carbohydrate and fat. In essence, you are now consuming the meals that a typical male would eat. For nursing mothers, add an extra five grams of protein to each Zone meal.”

Subject: The Zone Diet
Hello,
I am Geri from Bulgaria, 33 years old mother of 3 years old girl and also 20 weeks pregnant with twins. I am 164cm/64 inches tall and before getting pregnant I was 55kg but right now I am 60kg. My blood and urine tests are excellent and I am in a good health. My daily food plan is similar to the Zone Diet but I would like to be more precise with the quality and mostly the quantity of food intake. What kind of scheme would be appropriate for me? Should I start with 14 zone blocks or more and how to distribute my daily blocks? I am taking some magnesium, folic acid and two of the AquaSource Products – “Green energy”/ a combination of three naturally-sourced ingredients: AquaSource Algae, Organic Alfalfa, and Hawaiian Spirulina/ and “Colactive 3” /combines Colostrum with Lactoferrin and Lactobacillus Acidophilus/ -
http://www.aquasource.net/. Do you think I should combine these food supplements with the Zone Diet and is it necessary to take some more omega -3, vitamins C, D and E?
Tank you in advance.
Kind regards.
